Decades later, Newtown Square native Steve Shauger has been reunited with the same 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 he owned in the 1970s, writes Scotty Lachenauer for Hot Rod Network.
Shauger fell in love with Camaros when first saw one while walking to elementary school. Years later, he found one that was perfect.
He drove the car home that same day, and spent the next two years working on it. Shauger enjoyed the car for a few more years, and after marrying his wife, he sold it in 1983.
Nevertheless, he could not stop thinking about the car, and three years later, he called the buyer to ask about its status. He learned that the car had been sold to Mark Stuteville in Texas.
For the next 24 years, Shauger would regularly call Stuteville, hoping to buy the car back. Finally, eight years ago, Stuteville was ready to sell, a moment made bittersweet by Shauger’s mother passing away the following day.
Now, Shauger is determined to keep the car.
“Needless to say, I am reliving my youth, and I have had a blast doing so,” he said.
