To find the best places to retire, SmartAsset collected data on three factors that affect retirees’ quality of life including local and state taxes, medical care, and recreational/social opportunities. Media came first on the list, achieving a SmartAsset Best Places to Retire Index of 68.37.
The town with a population of around 5,500 has a combined tax rate of both income and sales taxes of 16.9 percent. Media also boasts 21 doctor’s offices and 5.1 Recreation Centers, and 1.3 Retirement Centers per 1,000 people. The percentage of seniors in the town is currently at 15 percent.
