Malvern-based Meridian Bank recently hosted its first annual golf tournament to benefit Surrey Services for Seniors – a Devon-based nonprofit with additional locations in Broomall, Media, and Havertown that helps older adults live with independence and dignity and continue as engaged members of the community – at Applebrook Golf Club.
“We are beyond thrilled,” said Surrey CEO Bob Madonna. “We now have the ability to help more older adults in our community who do not have transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, or pharmacies.”
Surrey is a 37-year-old nonprofit that provided local seniors with 15,500 trips to essential medical appointments in 2017 alone.
“Our partnership with Surrey is close to my heart because my mother received many services Surrey offers,” said Chris Annas, CEO of Meridian Bank.
Golfers experienced a first-rate golf course followed by a delicious dinner as the sunset washed across the sky in coral hues. There were prizes for the top players, an exciting raffle, and auctions.
But what most remember is a very special speech from an 85-year-old man who benefits from Surrey’s programs and services every day, but who also serves as a volunteer for meal delivery to homebound seniors.
“That is why we are here,” said Madonna. “Because everyone has a ‘Dan’ in their lives. It could be your uncle, father, neighbor, grandfather, or the man who sits in front of you at church. We need to ask our seniors – How can we help you? – and then do just that.”
