Kelly Peters, LPC, RPT, is a Group Therapist in the CREATE program at the Child Guidance Resource Centers.
CREATE (Creating Relationships and Emotional Adaptability in a Therapeutic Environment) is an innovative, group outpatient service for children and young adults diagnosed with autism.
Children participate in evidence-based, interactive therapies to improve social conversations, emotional regulation, adaptability, flexibility, and self-control so they can make friends and succeed when challenged.
A Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in child, adolescent, and family counseling, Kelly has been with Child Guidance since the CREATE Program began in 2016. Kelly obtained her Masters in Counseling Psychology at LaSalle University, and then completed her Registered Play Therapist certification.
Her career working with children on the Autism Spectrum began more than 10 years ago when she witnessed many parents struggling to engage in play with their children.
To support parents in this process, she developed an approach called StoryBook Play™ which uses special picture books to teach play skills to parents and children.
She has focused much of her work on the profound impact of play because it is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the “language” of the child. She believes that people possess a deep and profound ability to overcome obstacles when provided with a supportive environment.
Child Guidance Resource Centers is proud to have talented, dedicated, and resourceful therapists like Kelly Peters who bring quality services to our programs.
